This website was created on July 4, 2000 and is operated as a project of the Jefferson Ruritan Club for the benefit of the entire community (see bottom for sponsorship & free services).  
Jefferson, Md. is an unincorporated town, established in 1774.  Incorporated as a town in 1831-1832. Jefferson townsfolk decided they didn't need a municipal government.

July 26 - 31, 2010:  Jefferson Ruritan Community Carnival

This year was a record setter for our community!  Thanks for your support. See statement of THANKS from David Remsburg, Carnival Chairman. Entertainment and volunteer schedule and other information This is a major fund raiser for our local organizations, providing good food and entertainment.

 Aug. 5 (Thur.):  Jefferson Trails Project Planning, 7 pm

Location:  Jefferson Ruritan Center

This is the seventh meeting of stakeholders with the County principal planner.  If you are interested in participating in the project, contact Kay Schultz (301-371-5458) or Jim Carpenter (301-371-5263)

Citizens in Jefferson are joining together to develop an interconnected set of bike and pedestrian trails that will connect nearby residential communities with Valley Elementary, Jefferson businesses, post office, churches, playgrounds, community center and the new Catoctin Creek Nature Center and Park.  The purpose of the Trails project is to strengthen the fabric of the community, foster improved health, save money and reduce air and water pollution (from driving less) and have more fun.  The project will promote a more “walkable” community, enabling children to safely walk to school as well as increasing local residential property values.    (See article in Frederick News-Post, Sat., Jan. 16, 2010, "Walking the Walk, How Walkability Raises Housing Values in US Cities”)

Aug. 18 (Wed.), 2010:  Annual Picnic & Ruritan Dinner Meeting , 7 p.m.

The Jefferson Ruritan Club, Jefferson Ruritan Club, is combining our monthly meeting with our annual picnic.  As an expression of appreciation, everyone who has assisted in club activities during the year is invited.

Backyard Buffers 2009

Help control pollution run-off by planting seedlings and shrubs in your back yard.  The "Buffer in a Bag" program includes 25 bare root seedlings and shrubs in a bag for free.  You can help restore and protect your local waters and the Chesapeake Bay without leaving your own backyard.     More information.

Community Garden

The Community Garden of FoxHaven Farms, located on Poffenberger Road in Jefferson, is looking for new participants to share gardening work, learn the principles of organic methods, and share in the bounties of the harvest.  The Community Garden has been in existence for 5 years. Participants contribute labor and a yearly fee. For more details and to sign up please call Susan Hanson 301-371-4274 or Kay Schultz 301 371-5458.
